Esperant and Media are part of the Speedware Business Intelligence solution - a powerful, versatile suite of tools that gathers data from multiple sources and transforms raw data into usable information displayed in a graphical format. The solution is highly customizable, easy to configure, and offers a short learning curve - for administrators and end users.
Speedware has identified all of the complex processes that make up an integrated BI solution and carefully designed tools and strategies to make each step logical and user friendly. The Speedware BI solution ensures that the following have never been easier:
- Identification of your measures
- Transfer of data
- Creation of dashboards
- Creation of standard and ad hoc reports
- Client access from the desktop or Web
- Security and maintenance of data repositories
- And more…
The solution can easily be scaled upward to support a high number of concurrent users accessing data files on a network, since its unique OLAP server module ensures fast response time and minimum network traffic.
The flexibility of the BI solution also contributes to its scalability. All users access the same repository, which incorporates common data files, but are free to define their own view of the data. Each user gets appropriate, pertinent information, exactly when needed, without making extra demands on the MIS department.
Speedware's BI solution supports multiple platforms and databases. Our client/server implementation offers distinct advantages over non-distributed systems during the roll-out phase and throughout the ongoing maintenance phase. A client/server system is the recommended solution for organizations with geographically dispersed locations or those that need to access multiple databases.

Each layer in this distributed system can be located on a different platform and a different machine. End users enter the system through a browser or a Media / Esperant client and access dashboards and reports. Requests are sent to the Decision Server, which either responds with data from its cache or routes the request to the central repository. The repository queries the database and returns the information to the user.
The Server/Host layer includes Decision Server, the central repository and the multiple databases. Decision Server manages access to the central repository (see below for more information). The central repository stores the measures, reports, dashboards, cache files and data views that are used in the BI solution. The RDBMS and legacy databases are accessed through native or ODBC connectivity.
Decision Server is an enterprise-scale client/server solution designed to support Media and Esperant. Only one server needs to be installed and maintained to satisfy all corporate decision support needs, from reporting to analysis.
Decision Server offers many advantages, including faster development, easier maintenance and better response time than standalone installations. All ODBC queries are routed through Decision Server to the database, so there is no need to install and maintain ODBC middleware on each client machine. With Decision Server and Speedware's BI suite, you can manage security right down to the element level for groups and individual users. This security feature, along with the Decision Server cache, helps improve system performance, as space in memory is used efficiently and identical requests by multiple users are eliminated.
Media and Esperant give managers the power to identify problems or opportunities quickly and accurately. These tools put analysis (hybrid OLAP), query and reporting (SQL) and data mining at your fingertips without requiring specialized knowledge. You can quickly run customizable and highly accurate reports through Esperant or analyze critical information through a Media dashboard. Features include drill-downs, drill-ups, statistical operations, sophisticated charting, "what-if" forecasting and analysis rules that highlight anomalies in your business performance.
The Speedware BI solution can be configured and customized for any business, from start-ups with a specific need to global corporations that require enterprise-wide reporting and analysis.
